There are many things to do in Griffith and surrounding areas; you just need to know when and where to go.
If you are an outdoor person you can go for some great hikes in the nearby Cocoparra National Park.Only a short drive away from the Outstation, you willencounter emus, kangaroos, wombats and lizards to name some of of Australias native animals. You climb some beautifull rock formations and enjoy the great vieuws. If you would like to camp, just ask us and we will show you the best spots.
Do you like water? You can cool off in the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point (30 min. drive). It's a great spot for swimming, canoeing or some fishing. Check with us to find out about where the good (camping) beaches are located. After a day of swimming it's great to have a barbecue and listen to the sounds of the cockatoos in the late afternoon. Make sure you check if you are permitted to light a fire for a barbecue as in summertime there normally is a total fireban.
(as in any river, never dive in the water as there are trees/tree stumps in the water on which you can hurt yourself.)
Or if you would like to stay closer to town you can visit Lake Wyangan just outside of Griffith. Whether you like to go here for a swim, a peddle or do some serious waterskiing, the Lake is big enough! Around the Lake are some nice barbecue areas and you can get up-close-and-personal with the animals in the wild life enclosures (eg kangaroos, deer and emus).
If you have some more time to spare, it is worth while visiting the Willandra National Park. Just out of Hillston this national park is where the outback starts. If you would like to be able to see as far as you can with no man made buidlings, go there and stare at the sublime horizon. You can have a look at the beautifully done up homestead and read about the families who used to run this famous wool growing station.
Griffith itself offers a lot of things to do; eat at any of the many retaurants (varying form from cheap pizza's to french cuisine), watch a movie at the cinema, shop until you drop at Banna Avenue or in the shopping centres, visit the art gallery or have a beer at one of the pubs.
